St James - Holidays in Cape Town
This is one of the prettiest little towns you could ever hope to see. Tiny and sheltered from the wind, St James has a wonderful old-world feel that is hard to find anywhere else. Holiday Accommodation is limited but guest houses and hotels come in plenty at the nearby sea-side surrounds.
Atmosphere
The bright, multi-coloured Victorian bathing boxes that line the beach at St James bring a feeling of quaint history to the beachfront. You can't help thinking of girls in frilly bloomers and huge sunhats smiling into the lens of an antique, black and white camera. And that type of atmosphere continues once you settle in at St James holiday accommodation.
The renowned Cecil Rhodes to retired to this charming little hamlet for good reason, the happy atmosphere and small-town feel keep visitors coming back year after year.
Activities
Swimming and sun-bathing feature amongst the most popular summer activities. The large, protected tidal pool means that even the little ones can safely experience a dip in the water.
Whales, especially the Southern-Right Whale, come closer to the beach at St James than anywhere else on the coast. In the breeding season you can get a really great view of them from the beach and there are plenty of stunning photo opportunities!

What's for dinner?
Charming coffee shops and top class restaurants will provide delicious delicacies to pamper your pallet. Of course ice-cream is the best nourishment for lazing around on the beach!
History
The railway station is situated on the site of the first Roman Catholic Church that was built there in 1852. When the railway to Simon's Town was built, the site of St James Church was the only one available for a railway station to be built. The church's priest, Father Duignan, allowed the St James Church to be demolished and rebuilt in another location but stipulated that he would only permit his church to be replaced with a railway station on the condition that the new railway station be named 'St James'.
St James is a little gem on the coast with all the modern conveniences you could possibly need. The whole family will enjoy a safe, fun holiday in the sun.
